The Air Force is the largest consumer of petroleum products in
the Department of Defense. Secretary of the Air Force Michael Wynne
has made it a priority to find alternative fuels to replace fossil
fuels. In a partnership with the State of Hawaii, Hickam is
implementing Secretary Wynne's directive and is leading the way with
its hydrogen production and new fueling stations.
Pinnacle CNG's hydrogen pressure management system is installed and
operating daily at Hickam Field in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii at the
USAF's Hydrogen Demonstration Program. The compression system is
packaged in a four-stage variable-speed, ruggedized field-deployable
pod developed by HydraFLX Systems LLC of Galveston, TX. The Pinnacle
compression and pressure management system (PMS) has over one
million operational hours of real-world experience. The compressor
can follow H2 production or operate independently to manage fuel
transfer to or from vessels and vehicles. Vehicles in the
demonstration fleet include fuel cell (FC) bus, FCVan, FCTowtractor,
and FCForklift. Pinnacle CNG Company is continuing to partner with
HydraFLX Systems in the USAF program to expand, integrating
renewable wind and solar energies to production of clean hydrogen
transport fuel.
The hydrogen plant and fueling station at Hickam AFB, Hawaii are the
starting points for the Air Force in the pursuit to research ways to
find new energy sources. It is also the spearhead for the Department
of Defense's fight to conserve energy, create cleaner air and break
its dependence on fossil fuel.
